Weather
Camano Island is sunny year-round but does not have the weather extremes that Seattle, and the Seattle metro area, can experience regarding summer extreme temps, winter rain levels, or winter storms.
- When Seattle hits summer highs of 90-100, Camano usually will be 10-15 degrees cooler, at a very pleasurable 80 degrees. Camano's year-round sunlight is also brighter, with less cloudy/grey days than the Seattle area.
- While Camano has appropriate precipitation to sustain the island's native lush green landscape, Camano is significantly less rainy than Seattle.
- In winter, Camano doesn't get the weather extremes of Seattle. And with a drier winter humidity, Camano does not have the bone-chilling cold of the more damp Seattle barometer.
With its elevation on Camano Island, Thunder Ridge can be sunnier than other parts of the island that are 'sunrise' or 'sunset' only areas. Thunder Ridge experiences both the sunrise and sunset. Thunder Ridge is also not hidden in the trees, like some forested areas of Camano, so it is sunnier and warmer year-round.
Camano Island is one of two islands in Island County. The other island is Whidbey Island. Whidbey Island is to the west, it is bigger and shields Camano from any weather extremes approaching from the Puget Sound. Camano's more moderate weather is also said to be a result of Camano being 'in the rain shadow' of the Olympic Mountain range.
